Meet Anan Daud Kandar, a shining example of how digital skills can open new doors for refugees. Originally from South Sudan, Anan has been living in Kakuma Refugee Camp with her mother and sister, where opportunities to build a better future have often seemed scarce. However, when Konexio’s Digital Inclusion Program (DIP) was introduced, Anan saw it as her golden chance to acquire the skills necessary to change her circumstances.
Over the course of the six-month program, Anan dedicated herself to mastering key digital skills, including data entry, graphic design, and data scraping. Her determination and focus were evident, and upon completing the program, Anan quickly turned her new knowledge into action. She began freelancing on platforms like Appen, Upwork, and Freelancer, securing meaningful work and becoming financially independent.
But Anan’s journey didn’t stop there. Today, she volunteers as an administrative assistant at Generation Aid Center, a community-based organization in Kakuma. In this role, she helps enroll new students and manages critical data entry tasks for the organization's digital skills training program. As her internship draws to a close, Anan is hopeful for a full-time position at the organization, where she can continue supporting others who are eager to transform their lives, just as she has.
Anan’s journey from refugee to digital freelancer, and now a key contributor at Generation Aid Center, is a testament to her resilience and drive. She has become a beacon of hope within her community, proving that with the right skills and determination, it’s possible to overcome barriers and build a brighter future.
